City of Ashes is a fantasy novel that takes place in New York. It is the second book in “The Mortal Instruments” series by Cassandra Clare. This story follows events that happen to Clary Fray. It also follows some events that affect Jace Wayland. The storyline focuses on a group of Shadowhunters fighting demons and monsters. The storyline also explores the twisted family drama between Clary, Jace, and Valentine. Clary has to fight off Valentine, while also trying to wake her mother from a sleeping curse. The plot of City of Bones is about finding the Mortal Cup. The plot of City of Ashes is about getting the Mortal Instruments from Valentine so he cannot take over Earth.
