The theme of, "The Cask of Amontillado," is revenge, and that if you insult other people and don’t treat others nicely, then someone will get revenge back on you, and you won’t like it. In other words, for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. For example, if you’re nice to people, then people will be nice to you, but if you’re mean to other people then they’ll be mean to you. In the story Fortunato, was arrogant and insulted Luchesi, saying that he doesn’t know anything about wine, and that Montresor should ask him for advice as he knows everything. Montresor asked him several times if Fortunato wanted to leave, but he was stubborn and kept saying no which ultimately led him to his death. As quoted from the "The Cask of Amontillado,"
