The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe is a story about revenge and hatred. The exposition presents Montresor, an Italian man, embroiled in a deep hatred for a friend names Fortunato. The conflict incites once Montresor devises a plan to carry out Fortunato’s death. The rising action begins when Montresor leads Fortunato to his home – under the impression that the former was bringing him to the place of an imitation pipe of Amontillado, and was tesing the legitimacy. The climax occurs when Fortunato then realizes that there is no pipe of Amontillado, and is chained to the catacomb wall by the killer who was once his friend.
