Under the system, board appointments are usually controlled by the firm’s substantial shareholders, and as a result, directors are chosen based on “the old-boy” network or “people like us”, who are typically middle-aged males and from similar ethnicity which could lead to “group think”. Board diversity ensures breadth and depth of the board’s judgments. The lack of women representation on boards become an important issue recently that need to be addressed due to the benefits driven from gender diversity in the boardrooms. To this end, this study examines board diversity of the listed Malaysia companies in banking industry, specifically director’s gender. The population of the study comprises of the companies listed in Bursa Malaysia for both Main and ACE market for the year 2014. The finding indicates that awareness and disclosure of banking industry on gender diversity on boardroom is very poor.
