Americas most hated mother, Casey Anthony, is now living the life of a normal person. A spine-chilling case involving a missing two-year-old child in Florida became one of the biggest murder stories of the decade in 2008 and 2009 according the article, “Murder.” Casey Anthony went weeks before reporting her missing child. Investigators soon charged Casey Anthony for the murder of her two-year-old child after Casey failed to tell the truth in police reports. This case caught the eye of the public, forasmuch bystanders wanted justice for the two-year-old girl. Controversy and protests started to occur once Casey Anthony went in for trial. On July 17, authorities officially charged Casey with one count of child neglect and two counts of obstruction of justice. Authorities held Casey on a $500,000 bond. While Casey’s trial was in process, the public got a view of some of Casey’s pictures in a nightclub. Authorities noted that these photos were taken after Caylee had gone missing, raising suspicions that Casey had murdered her daughter so that she could take part in these social activities. Did these photos strengthened the doubts against Casey Anthony? Yes, because these photos made the further infuriated the public. This case was categorized under the psychological perspective because society took no role connecting to the reasons behind her motivations. The psychological perspective is the studying of human behavior and mental processing. The sociological perspective is the study of human behavior and its connection to society. Some of the explanations behind this action was because Casey Anthony wanted to live her life as a normal young adult, or she wanted to drink and party without worrying about her two-year-old daughter. Although these aren’t the only explanations, using the sociological imagination many can agree that society sometimes unfairly judges an individual. In her case, she was already judged and sentence by society, many people thought she killed her baby without putting themselves in her shoes. Do members of society know what happen? Nobody knows but herself. We don’t know if she really killed her daughter, what if she’s innocent and society is bashing her for a crime she didn’t commit.
This can be connected to structural functionalism for many reasons. According to this theory, society is composed of different parts that work together to maintain social stability. Hence, if one of these parts do not function properly than society will break down. Family is a social institution that needs to function properly. The family function is to ready its children and to ready them to fit into
