In the amazing poem “Casey at the Bat” and the wise story of “ David and Goliath “, a connection of differences and similarities. In other words ,many similarities occur throughout both story and poem , one of the most noticeable similarity is that both tough guys , really are not afraid to fail or anything in their path . In addition ,what I mean by this is that in the story “Casey at the Bat” Casey is so confident which means he knows he is good, that if he fails the world will not care about what he has done to the team, then comes the “David and Goliath”, which Goliath knew he was the best soldier in his army. Therefore he wanted to fight another good soldier, he knew he was gonna when so why fear losing. As a result another similarity …show more content…
“In Casey at the bat”, it mentions how depressing it was, “and somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;but there is no joy in Mudville – mighty Casey has struck out.” Then in David and Goliath it describes how bad Goliath failed, it cracked his skull, and he fell face down on the ground, David defeated Goliath with a sling and a rock, he killed him without even using a sword. What this shows is that the “Underdog”, just defeated a guy that was a soldier his whole life. On the other hand ,of the story there are many differences. For example,my first difference is about how Casey failed to win the game ,while David succeed in beating Goliath. In the book “Casey at the bat”,it says, “But there is no joy in Mudville – mighty Casey has struck out.” Which clearly means he did not make it and failed, in the book”David and Goliath” it states,” He killed him without even using a sword”, which means David successful defeated Goliath. My second difference is about the difference each character played. What I mean is like how the Emperor believed that David could not beat Goliath because in the story it says, “You don’t have a chance against him,” Saul replied. “You’re only a boy, and he’s been a soldier all his life.” Which means don’t do it you will die, in Casey at the bat everyone knew who would win the game that’s why they cheered and

In the book David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants, by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell raises a contrary voice on the misconceptions of underdogs and outsiders. According to Gladwell, “We think of things as helpful that actually aren’t and think of other things as unhelpful that in reality leave us stronger and wiser.” (25). The Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines an advantage as “superiority of position or condition” and a disadvantage as “an unfavorable, inferior, or prejudicial condition”. Gladwell uses the story of David and Goliath, from the bible, to show the misconceptions we have about underdogs and outsiders.…

The term “underdog” is viewed by many as a team, group, or individual who has a little to no chance of benefitting from or winning a situation. However, these “underdogs” often times find a way to win or be the ones who benefit from a particular situation. The “giants” that they face often times are overrated or as Gladwell says, “are not what we think they are”. Throughout Malcolm Gladwell’s David and Goliath he shows how the underdogs use their situation to their benefit and how the giants or favorites are actually at a disadvantage. He supports his claim and uses evidence from various examples including education, civil rights, sports, crime rates, and bombings.…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

Movies have always had a way of bringing to life the written word. When a modern movie tries to portray the thoughts of long age, sometimes the perceptions of the modern world infiltrate the storyline. These perceptions can be seen when analyzing the movie versus the book of Solomon Northup’s 12 Years A Slave. Director Steve McQueen and screenwriter John Ridley were able to infuse the essence of Northup’s book, while also adding the views from now with regard to slavery.…
