The goal in developing the colonies was to export gods such as sugar, spices, seafood and furs. Now for Britain, the first reason was for religious freedom, something which was rare back in England as all people had to belong to the Church of England. Next, the English decided to move to America for the same reasons as the Spanish conquistadors and the French, which was the desire for gold, wealth and other resources.
