Case Study: West Virginia Education Information System

My school organization ensures the accuracy of organizational data, information, and knowledge in many different ways. The first method of ensuring this data is through the West Virginia Education Information System (WVEIS). This system is used by all schools in West Virginia and is monitored and kept by the West Virginia Department of Education. WVEIS is the place where all student records are kept, and also the place where information such as teacher evaluations and strategic planning goals are kept as well. WVEIS has a hierarchy for access, so as to ensure that all data and information is sure to be accurate. My school also ensures accuracy by looking at data from differing sources. These sources include student scores from state testing, data from federal monitoring, and data collected by administration at the school. By paying attention to what surrounding counties are doing and purchasing, we are able to find what is best for our school. My school resides in an area that is very poverty stricken, and cost is always a major factor. Through this process, we are often able to get a better buy on the technology needed. Buying technology based on the direction of the curriculum has been very effective as well. This allows my school to keep up with the latest technology all while supporting the learning needs of our students. A replacement fund, which is called upon often, has been effective as well. This allows our teachers to use their technology without the fear that once its lifetime has passed, another will not be available. These process are very important, as they allow my school to sustain the technology that is available. We do not have the resources to buy technology on demand, therefore it is vital that we have these plans in place for the
