Wendy Sampson is an 8 year old female residing in Point Pleasant, NJ with her mother, sister and maternal grandmother. She attends 4th grade in Ocean Road Elementary School. She has attended Ocean Road Elementary School since she was 3 years of age and in preschool. Wendy has seen the school social work intern for four thirty minute sessions. Before meeting with the client, the school social work intern reviewed the file on Wendy Sampson. In addition, the school social worker discussed Wendy with the school social worker. Wendy’s family history is significant for neglect. The school social worker has called Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) multiple times over the course of Wendy’s educational experience. Wendy and her older sister were removed from the home for six months when Wendy was 3 years of age. The children were placed with a foster family. The school social worker informed the school social work intern that she has never witnessed Wendy in a more positive state. Wendy was thriving in her education as well as her physical appearances. Since Wendy’s mother completed a parenting class, the judge ordered that Wendy and her sister be returned to their biological mother. Wendy’s mother experiences mental illness that leaves her incapable of consistently being there for her children. Wendy has mentioned she spends a decent amount of time cleaning the house, making herself food and occupying herself in her free time. There are concerns that Wendy is not being educated on the importance of hygiene. This mother daughter relationship affects Wendy’s academics. Wendy’s mother does not always hold her education as a priority, so Wendy does not either. Wendy’s mother needs to deal with the issues of her past so she can function as a healthy
