Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Taylor assists to identify and replace maladaptive behaviors and thoughts. This is especially helpful for Taylor who exhibits symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, aggression, and complicated grief. With this second placement, Taylor continues to show improvement with the use of CBT and support. In addition to CBT, other skills used to help Taylor include deep breathing techniques, identifying health alternatives and activities, social skills development, positive self-image tactics, and being able to just listen. At times Taylor just needs to vent; this writer will listen as the client vents which typically calms the client down. This writer and client will assess the problem together and writer provides feedback. Ethical considerations were made before the client was placed in Treatment Foster Care. Taylor was expected to graduate from the Barr House, however the program closed. Treatment Foster Care was unsure if they had a suitable placement to support Taylor’s needs and behaviors. There are no services or very limited services. TFC will allow a client over the age of 18 to stay in the program if they are enrolled at least part-time in college or a vocational school and/or employed at least part-time; this is voluntary placement. Across the United States, resources and funds are becoming readily available to this population, but in order to achieve better results, foster care services should extend beyond the age of 18. There should be policies in place that will help youth aged 18 to 21 learn independent living skills, experience trial independence, and services preparing them for the “adult world”.
