Hi Barabara, In my opinion, the way that the designers used to situate learning was through analogies, real life examples, and tips to apply at home. As you mentioned, there were no team activities or group exercises. This might be due to the difficulty to organize groups in a massive course. However, I think the forums and discussion areas were the teaching strategies thought to facilitate shared spaces for interaction and generating ideas.…

“The streets are paved in sunshine.” This was the first statement I heard upon arriving at Stanford University. The woman who said those six words that caught me completely off guard approached me with a California-aged smile, casual and relaxed, and welcomed me with open arms. She introduced herself as an alumni of the university and proceeded to tell me about the great experiences she had as a student and the memories she created with her best friends in her “prime time”. As she rambled on, I realized that she said nothing about the stellar academics, the esteemed professors, or the endless professional opportunities offered at the University.…

USF’s main focus is on social justice, which is why USF students learn to be open to experiencing new religions and cultures. An interesting fact that I learned about USF is that theater students perform their plays at prisons that have a relationship with USF.…

The Belmont Report (1979) was created in order to establish ethical guidelines and principles regarding research experiments. Over the years, studies have come under observation for following questionable ethical guidelines in their studies. One such research study involved experimental gene-therapy, which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Jesse Gelsinger. While the treatment was experimental, the ethics followed by the researchers may have been more questionable than previously assumed, and not in total accordance with the Belmont guidelines. According to the Belmont Report (1979), respect for persons stipulates “that individuals should be treated as autonomous agents, and that persons with diminished autonomy are entitled to protection.”…
