In case study thirteen, “Is This My Life?”, we examine the relationships of a young lady named Dorothy as she uses her relationships to fulfill her inner desires. Dorothy’s story specifically follows her relationship with her romantic interests when she begins dating in high school to after she has completed college. In high school, Dorothy finds herself having trouble finding a romantic partner since she is untraditional and frequently isolates herself from others. By the time she was ready to go off to college, she desired a relationship in order to be seen as an adult and to prove her value to others. Dorothy eventually entered into a long-term relationship but her internal and external issues that arose after being sexually assaulted one

Dorothy knew that her parents would be disappointed about the pregnancy but never considered how it would affect her brother and their relationship. Her brother was getting ready to attend college at that time and he would have to suffer at the expenses of Dorothy and her child being that their parents would have to financially support the both of them. Additionally, James was affected by the pregnancy since he would have to provide for both the child and Dorothy. He considered how Dorothy’s parents would also be affected by the pregnancy since they would have to provide the resources to support Dorothy and the baby when they did not have any say in having the child. Dorothy solely thought about how the child would bring them closer together as the perfect family that she envisioned given that James would be forced to stay with her because of the child. James, on the other hand, thought that the baby would interfere with both of their life plans being that he was searching for a long-term career and considering going to graduate school while Dorothy was still in college for undergrad. Despite how the pregnancy negatively affected the people and relationships around her, Dorothy was still joyous about the upcoming child being that the opportunity it would bring to change her
