The Homeowner Repair and Community Investment (HRCI) program helps preserve homeownership by partnering with homeowners struggling to restore and maintain a safe and decent place to live. HRCI is an opportunity for Habitat for Humanity (HFH) to partner with the homeowners to repair their homes as well as improve the community. It is a leading organization in revitalizing the appearance of the neighborhood, strengthens connections within the community, and helps preserve affordable housing stock.

One person will facilitate the discussion with everyone’s input on the organizational web chart. Once the team has completed brainstorming, they can formulate the vision statement. The facilitator may need to be someone from outside the organization or with strategic development experience. However, the Board of Directors and all staff should participate in the discussion. The empowerment theory and solution based theory focus on positively encouraging the client to find solutions of home repair. They are both a positive and uplifting approach to encourage the clients and social workers to work collaboratively to find solutions. The rationale for HFH and HRCI is built on the same premise as the as Solution Based Theory in social work which (Dermer, 2012) focuses on the solution and the client creating a solution. The short-term, mid-term and long-term impacts are to empower homeowners and build community by working together. Relational-cultural theory (2008) focuses on grow fostering relationships.
