The Gospel of Luke is one of the four Gospels accepted as part of the canon of Scripture. This Gospel is the Gospel that focuses most on social justice and God’s mercy. His Gospel is also the only Gospel that contains the annunciation. Though Luke didn’t witness Jesus’s miracles personally he did sound research and his Gospel is just as accurate as the others.
Luke wrote two books in the Bible, The Gospel of Luke and The Acts of the Apostles. He, himself was only present in The Acts of the Apostles, so all of his Gospel is second hand rather than a personal account. Also his Gospel more than the others focuses on social justice. Luke Was a physician as also stated in Colossians 4:10-14. In our time we would be led to believe that he was rich, being a doctor and all, however he could have been born a slave. It was not uncommon in those days for people to have a slave trained in medicine, so they could have a physician in the house.
Being born as a slave could be the reason his Gospel often focuses on Jesus and the poor. Only in his Gospel can the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. Also he is the only one to use “blessed are the poor,” rather than “blessed are the poor in spirit,” in the Beatitudes.
Luke also seems to often focus on Jesus’s treatment and forgiveness of sinners. This is the Gospel where the classic story of the prodigal son is found. The story of the woman washing Jesus’s feet with her tears calls this Gospel its home. In this Gospel more than any other Jesus helps the sinner who wants to return to God’s
