Case Study : The Crooked E

We live in an interesting economic period with the financial crises of 2007/2008 and the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers illustrating a period of uncertainty. I recently watched a film called the Crooked E which showed the rise and fall of the company Enron which is known for the corporate fraud and corruption that took place. Studying Economics at A level has heightened my desire to study Business at university. I recently submitted an essay to the Royal Economic Society as part of a competition, it explored the exploitation of drug companies and by undertaking this essay I learnt more about multinational corporations such as AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline.
I have read many autobiographies including Bill Gates, James Caan and Cherie Blair, I believe it is of great importance to read about others experiences especially those who are the most successful in society to learn about their skills and core values. I enjoy watching documentaries related to Business such as ‘Game Changers’ on Bloomberg which looks at the business leaders and entrepreneurs who climbed to the top and changed our world.
I have always been a diligent and active student. I have submitted many articles on subjects including P.E, science and history to the school newsletter and I have taken on many lead roles in school assemblies and class presentations. I have

Leadership is defined as being a leader of an organization or a group of individuals. To me a leader is someone who will give their all to accommodate someone in obligation of assistance. A leader doesn’t give up on hard task and pushes to be an example for their peers. I have demonstrated my leadership in and out of school by being a responsible, honest and hardworking individual, who expresses empathy to help those who didn’t think they could achieve a goal on their own. While in high school I have been in multiple extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Class Treasurer, NHS and Yearbook.…

As a junior at Northville High School, I am already discovering my passion for business through my participation and leadership roles in organizations such as DECA. I have obtained not only extensive marketing and general business knowledge through self-studying for competitive tests, but also practical communication, presentation, and sales skills while representing various business professionals in judged roleplay scenarios. I have placed at the district, state, and international level in my events, and this year I will have competed at the International Career Development Conference for my third year. These experiences give me a good foundation of understanding business concepts, and I plan to learn more about how businesses operate in the global market through the Business is Global program at the Kelley School of Business.…
