BCG-Matrix Caldwell University The BSG-matrix was developed by the Boston Consulting Group in 1970. It was created to help corporations to analyze their business units. The matrix helps a company to assign resources and use it as an analytical tool in several branches of a business. The matrix is a four quadrant, strategic planning tool that place and organization's divisions as circles in a display. There are four divisions that the matrix consist of. First one are the questions marks, they are in the upper right, they have a relative low market share, but they compete in a high growth market. Stars are in the upper left, they are the organization's best long-run opportunities. Cash cows are in the lower left corner, high market share, but compete in a low growth market. Caldwell already has ave a strong department for education, offering more than 30 undergraduate and graduate majors. Also, they have a strong stab of professors, with experience and knowledge that benefit the students. Caldwell would benefit even more if they expanded this area, get some additional majors, such as engineering degrees and more technologically oriented degrees. Because, in todays business world technology plays a huge role in the development and how to conduct business. Offering additional degrees will expand the market for new students, which will generate more money for the university. It will increase the amount of students attending Caldwell, and as we know more students means more tuition fees. For an expansion of the education department, Caldwell would need to expand their facilities. As we know, today Caldwell is a commuter school. Therefore, the need for a big parking lot is essential, but if they could use some of it for a new building or make improvements to already existing buildings.
