Texas Tech Graduate Student Finding Her Path in Ag Growing up on a cattle ranch in Prescott, AK, Cassie Godwin knew she wanted to experience life outside of her small-town comfort zone. Godwin, an agricultural communications graduate student, will return to her country roots this November after gaining valuable lessons and experiences at Texas Tech. “I’ve never had a McDonalds down the street from my house, so it was definitely an adjustment. But I knew the type of career I wanted to have, and the skills that I needed to have and wanted to have in order to be successful in a career that I needed to come to Tech.” Godwin had always known she wanted to pursue higher education in agriculture. “Whether it be marketing, advertising, design or whatever the case may be and internships that I got through Tech that I knew like this is my niche in ag.” Godwin has had several jobs and internships throughout her college career that she believes have led her to where she is now. Some required traveling, like her internship in Kansas, while others were stationary. Godwin said her college experiences have changed her into a well-rounded person, more independent and more knowledgeable about the communications aspect of agriculture. “I’ve always believed that when you live out of your suitcase you kind of learn the most. I think we can kinda gather a lot from each other and each other’s experiences, beliefs and ideas, and you learn from each of those experiences.”
