Case Study: Somerset Academy Miramar

Improved Essays
In fourth grade none of the teachers had time to go back over the material with me. It was just one and done. Somerset Academy Miramar isn’t as challenging as I want my school to be. I feel lost in such a large crowd of a large school with large classes, I would really like a smaller environment. I don’t think this school is helping me academically. The lunch tastes really bad. The only good thing there are the chicken nuggets but you have to look at them before eating since some are raw and cold. The air conditioning never works. It’s always so hot. Whenever you are in pain, they just give you a bag of ice to act as the solution. There is no school nurse to care for you when in distress. One percent of all of the students at Somerset …show more content…
The method of teaching and curriculum is garbage. Elementary children just follow along workbook material shown with little guidance. Also, number of children in a classroom in the early elementary grades is large. Get ready to break out money for lots of dumb things because this is a for-profit charter. I would much rather break the bank for a private school that would teach the children better.” says a Google review. Office personnel will not pay attention to you if you stand in front of them, you have to wait until they are done talking. With that being said, I would like to change to Chapel Trail. A hundred percent of the teachers have three or more years of experience and know how to handle the students. It’s the thirteenth best school in broward. It is more diverse than Somerset: 53% hispanic, 26% white, 17% black, 2% biracial, 2% asian, and 1% indian.. This school is exactly what I want and need. It’s challenging with more programs I could enjoy. Somerset Arts Conservatory promotes a culture that maximizes student achievement and fosters the development of accountable, 21st century learners in a safe and enriching environment. I am desperate for a change in scenery and am unhappy at Somerset Academy

Attending McCallie School has been the best decision of my life. Coming from being a pretty sheltered kid in Charlotte, I got the opportunity to live on my own as a fourteen year-old. I had to learn how to manage my time because I didn't have anyone to tell me when to study. I had to learn how to do things that I was used to my mother doing for me like doing laundry and changing my sheets. The point is I had to grow up fast.…

The program allowed the students to bring home a laptop computer provided by the school district. Unbeknownst to the students or their parents the laptop computers were all programed with spyware that gave the school district access to the computers’ webcam. The goal of the one to one program was to increase the connectivity between home and school for students. And while things do change about the school, the general essence of it remains. The fact is that the school has personality shaped by the students, which in effect shapes the students themselves. Many of the attributes and traits I have, I can proudly say are because of the atmosphere created by the building. By learning, playing, and hanging out in the same places for 12 years, one can learn new things about both themselves and their friends. And while most wouldn’t understand the quirky nature of the school, as it is a mix of both old and newer buildings, interconnected in a way which allows for spots with the most unconventional and strange uses tied to them, we cherish that quirkiness.…
