Should Phone Be Allowed At Columbus Catholic High School Are phones in school a distraction or a benefit for learning? Phones in school have been debated on for a long time if they should be allowed during school or not. At Columbus Catholic High School phones are not allowed during school hours they should be in lockers and turned off. If a phone is seen during class and a teacher catches you they will take it away and you can get it back at the end of the school day. Phones in school are both helpful and a distraction. They are helpful because it makes it easier for a parents to get ahold of a student faster then if they call the school and tell them, then they have to go find the student and give them that information. But they can also be a distraction because students will be on their phones more then paying attention in class and during their work when they need too. “Phones in school can prove to be a distraction and if things are said or sent to others on school grounds, it could create problems for the school and it's image.” Said Lauren Roberts 11th grader from Columbus Catholic. Allowing phones during certain parts of the day with be better because students will not have there phones when they should not. “In some cases yes, but when we can't have our phones in between classes or at lunch it limits contact with parents and outside friends. Yes, verbal communication is very important but if a parent needs to get immediate contact with a student, it is more difficult, because it has to go through a bunch of other sources before it gets to said student.” Said Roberts.
