I have been working in a nursing home for a little over a year as a dietary aide and have witnessed many problems within the dietary department. The root cause to all of the problems in the dietary department is bad management from my former manager, Sara. Sara was the dietary manager whose job was to manage the kitchen staff, order food and supplies, and plan out meals and snacks for special events at the nursing home. Bad management existed in the kitchen because Sara gave overtime to her employees like it was candy. Ian White, 66, is a vulnerable adult experiencing dementia and cared for at home by his partner, Jackie, 69. Jackie has asked Adult Social Care to assess both their needs as Ian has suffered a couple of falls, with the latest resulting in him staying in hospital with broken bones in his foot. As a result of the request, I have a responsibility as a statutory social worker to help keep Ian at home.
