SOAR Fox Cities is a non-profit organization that provides programs which empower this population. For example, the Special Olympics Bowling program increases this population’s self-determination. This program increases the participant’s self-determination because it teaches them independence. During my time at SOAR, I have actively participated in this program. Observation is a method which can enhance the assessment process. Hepworth et al. state, “a final source of information for assessment is the social worker’s personal experience based on direct interaction with the client” (p. 199).
