Woman In A Tub Analysis

My first time at the Art Institute went better than I anticipated. My friend went with me and we had a great time. We started off with Folk Art and then went to European Art. We ended up in the Doctrine and Devotion exhibition, and it was really interesting how the religious art from different parts of the world such as, Germany, France, Italy, and Peru were very similar to each other. I thought it was pretty cool how art can be very similar, when it comes to the same themes even if it has to do with two completely different artists, from different places, and from very different cultures. I think that if I would have gone to the Art Institute before taking Art Appreciation, I would probably have had a completely different perspective on the art. I don 't think I would have paid that much attention to the style, texture, format, or size. Even though it’s only half way through the semester, I already feel that I have learned a lot about interpreting art …show more content…
The name of the sculpture is Woman in a Tub. The sculpture is literally a naked woman in the tub, but there is more than just that. The woman had only one fourth of her head. Only her chin and mouth is showing, with her long hair on her shoulders. Her mouth was wide opened, and her hands were covering her breast, but her left hand was not covering her nipple. Her nails were really nicely polished with a color red, it also looked like her lips were painted red. Only one of her legs was showing and the rest was covered by what looked like white foam. There was a pink heart painted on the white foam, in the middle of her two legs. The shower head looked like a toy, with a ball inside. It looked like something you see at a playground and play with. There was also a colorful cone half way out of the white foam. I’m not sure what it represented, but it was colorful and reminded me of a party

Students who have taken four or more years of art education have proven to typically score twenty or more points higher in the SAT than an average student (Ruppert). Art is believed to help students of a higher level accept and realize that there is more than one approach to a challenge of a higher caliber (Jarvis and Gouthro). Some professors will use art to aid their students in understanding their works, and to allow them to come to an understanding that they are allowed to formulate their own opinion (Jarvis and Gouthro). While in most circumstances a professor may introduce a logical solution to a problem, a nice dichotomy can be formed by also introducing an emotional solution via art, because of the way art evokes many emotions (Jarvis and Gouthro). Furthermore, art gives students social commentary, and provide students with solutions to social solutions, as well (Jarvis and Gouthro).…

This can also be seen in relatively recent history, the way that women are viewed, treated and the way that they even view themselves and their place in the world has changed significantly even in the last several decades. It is astonishing how, even as far back as the Paleolithic Era, there appears to have been significant emphasis placed on women and their role as child bearers, among other possible things. The Woman of Willendorf sculpture provides us with insight as to some possible views and beliefs that were held toward women during the Paleolithic era of civilization.…

I went to the St Louis Art Museum and after attending I believe that I do have a better understanding of the artwork. All the art pieces were spread out through the art museum. They had spaces dedicated to old fashion, furniture sets and a site-specific art piece that Andy Goldsworthy did for the museum. They also at the time had a flower show being put together at the museum where one artwork would get to recreate a piece of work made out of flowers and you were really able to see how the flowers related to the artwork. There are plenty of resources available for attendees.…

These first two chapters has opened my eyes to a whole new world of what art is. As this class goes on, it will be interesting to learn about the history and creativity that goes in to creating pieces of artwork. Especially the stories behind much of the work. One thing I found surprising to have learned within these few chapters was the section on Art for Persuasion.…
