Equitable Outcomes
If certain policies were put into place and enforced, it could have led to equitable outcomes for Precious. The caseworker from the welfare system should have conducted more thorough and regular visits, and could have noticed the toxic environment and that Precious was abused. Children show different signs of being abused such as physical marks, and behavior changes such as fear and anxiety. Precious probably showed some of these signs, and it would have been obvious that something terrible was happening to her. Unfortunately, the caseworker did not notice, or did not care enough to inquire and intervene (“Signs of Child Abuse”, 2016; Sapphire, 1996).
In addition, the school system failed Precious. If the schools she attended would have noticed early on that she was being abused at home, and that she could not read or

Mary reached out to Precious because she misses her, but failed to recognize the damage that has been done and apologize. This put even more strain on their relationship. Family counseling could give them the opportunity to recognize what happened, and hopefully move forward. Although, Precious has expressed that she does not want to have a relationship with her mother, it may be beneficial for them to try to mend their relationship, so Precious could have closure.
Housing and Employment
One of Precious’s goals is to have full custody of her children. Two things that encompass taking care of children is obtaining employment and having housing. Currently, Precious lives in a halfway house that is only temporary, and she is not employed. To help Precious with these two tasks, I would make sure the social worker is knows that she is homeless, and help her apply for public housing. Also, I would make sure Precious is aware of all of the places in the neighborhood that are hiring, and see if there are programs for single mothers that help with

Back then, people were not as informed about the signs of abuse, nor did places have the resources or money to inform people. Precious lived in a ghetto community without many resources so even if an adult had suspected abuse, there would have been no one to report it too, nor would the adult know where to begin. The nurse at the hospital when Precious gave birth to Little Mongo should have known about the abuse. She asked Precious the name of her father, which she said was Carl Kenwood Jones, than she asked what the baby's father's name was and Precious used the same man's name. The nurse clearly had an understanding that the baby was a product of incest, yet nothing was done.…

"Peter's Lullaby: A song without words that held a little girl's life" is the most painful and horrific story I have ever read. It is a real story in which Jeanne Fowler narrates how growing up with an abusive and alcoholic mother was like. It was child abuse beyond the imaginable. Unlike other children whose lullaby are usually soothing, Fowler's lullaby was her young brother's screams of pain as he stood beaten. She begins her story by describing how the police rescued her siblings and her from unbearable torture during her few moments of being hung in her closet.…

The Effects of Insufficient Funding of Child Protective Services How often is the reality of child protective services (CPS) revealed? Occasionally, a child abuse or neglect case will result in child fatality that draws attention from the press. The media then exploits said child abuse case and the case worker is usually blamed for the child’s outcome, no matter what their efforts were to help the child prior to his or her death. Despite a social worker’s best intentions, they are not always capable of properly caring for children in need. There’s no denying the rising issue of child abuse and domestic violence in the United States, for example, according to the Child Help Organization, “a report of child abuse is made every ten seconds” (“Child…

This movie starts by introducing Claireece “Precious” Jones, a very miserable 16 year old living in urban Harlem who fantasizes about being “normal”. Her mother, Mary played by Mo’Nique, has a daily routine of watching TV, smoking cigarettes and cruelly oppressing her daughter by treating her like a slave, telling Precious that she wishes she would have abort her, and repeatedly telling her that she is nothing.
