Work place discrimination and Types
(Lepak & Gowan, 2010) defines discrimination as the act of treating people differently because of components that have nothing to do with their capability to deliver the goods for the organization. In the case of Xerox corporation the black employees have faced discrimination from their employees as they have been deprived of promotion opportunities despite being qualified for the job. As per my analysis, the type of discrimination in the case is l disparate impact. (Lepak & Gowan, 2010) notes that Disparate treatment focuses on the treatment of a particular person or group of persons within a particular protected class and explicitly considers the motivation for the company’s actions whereas Disparate impact focuses on the consequences of the employment practices. The discrimination towards the black employees have occurred due to the enforcement of Balanced workforce Initiative plan which is a form of employment practice. However, the company can justify that its actions occured as per the law enforced by the BFW plan which made them to take the discriminative actions.
Achievements of goals through less discriminatory manner Xerox Corporation’s BWF plan was enforced to wipe out discrimination from work place ensuring equal representation of individuals of all racial and gender groups. But, the plan wasn’t successful in avoiding discrimination. Thus, the corporation should have focused on creating more jobs in a creative manner to bring balance in the number of white and black personnel’s in the workplace. In addition, the corporation should have taken help from the legal advisor’s to create a workplace with equal numbers of all racial and gender individuals through analysis and evaluation of their past performances.
