The XMM-Newton (X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission or High Throughput X-ray Spectroscopy Mission) is an orbiting X-ray observatory launched in December 1999 by ESA (European Space Agency). ). XMM-Newton is the biggest satellite ever built in Europe. It is used for the detection of soft portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (100 eV to 12 keV).Using its large collecting area and highly eccentric orbit, it is making long observations of X-ray sources with extremely high sensitivity. It is very important to note that most of the 50-200 sources in every image are being seen for the first time.
The heart of the XMM is the X-ray telescope. It consists of 3 large mirror modules and associated focal plane instruments held together by the telescope’s …show more content…
(1) Gunzip ODF/*.gz : To unzip data fies.
(2) cifbuild:
Calibration information from the Calibration Access Layer is necessary for many SAS tasks. Relevant accessed from the set of current Calibration File (CCF) data using a CCF Index File (CIF). CCF files are directly downloaded from the SOC website. A CIF is included in the pipeline products (*CALIND*). For the updated version of CCF (Which was updated in our case) CIF is created just by typing following commands-
cd ODF cifbuild To use the updated CIF file in further processing, the environment variable SAS_CCF is was reset: export SAS_CCF//ccf.cif
(3) odfingest:
This task extends to Observation Data file (ODF) summary file with data extracted from the instrument housekeeping data files and the calibration database. It is necessary to run it once on any dataset and it will cause problems if it is run a second time. The earlier file it has produced must be deleted if for some reason this command is returned.
Odfingest
Export SAS_ODF/ ODF/full name of *SUM.SAS
It is useful to alias these environment variables reset in the login shell
