Also this type of setting is equally beneficial because it allows the families to see they are not the only ones going through this. This group will give them the support some might be searching for in the hard time of their lives.
Group Leader The leader for this group needs to be well educated in prenatal care. The leader could be a nurse or doctor. It is important that the leader is a medical profession so the family members could have all of their medical questions and concerns answered confidently. A nurse might be better suited to lead the group because they are the ones who will be interacting the families and newborns the most.
Group Criteria For a person to be allowed in the group they must have direct relationship with a newborn. Since this group is for premature/at-risk newborns the group will only be available if their baby is admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit. This group is going to be an open group. This means that if a person meets the criteria they can join at anytime. This is important because babies are born everyday, so a family might not need this group till after it is already going on. To help address the low attendance there is going to be an incentive in place. The incentive is going to be that if they attend one meeting a week they will be able to pick an item. The items are going to range from diapers to cloths for their newborn baby. The leader should be prepared to encounter any cultural difference a group member might have. The leader should be knowledgeable about the different cultures in the area. Lastly the group leader is going to have to talk in a way that everyone will understand them. Many of these people are young and therefore might not understand all the medical terms, so the leader is going to have to speck in way that all can
