The Baptist South Florida Health System in Coral Gables settled a claim in May 2008, for a violation of the Stark Law in the amount of 7.7 million. The Health System did self-report on this violation, but that did not exempt them from paying a fine, but it did allow for a lesser fine. Baptist Health contracted with an Oncology Group to provide dosing services for radiation and after Baptist performed an internal audit a few years later, they realized that the Oncology services they had been receiving were above fair market value.
