Inc. is a company that has seen success without information technology at one time. Since technology advancement has become an official way to operate and expand small business. Small business is now utilizing information technology to grow, improve, provide good customer services and expand their company outside their normal demographics. (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011)
Sew What? Inc. was founded by Megan Duckett in 1992. She built her company from inside of a kitchen and garage that eventually became a multimillion dollar business. She achieves success with the model of “never say no” to her customer. Over time she evolved from an at home business to operate a company with 35 employees. By 2006 she had earned and operated a company that had gross $4 million in sales. In which that growth was made with ability of her adopting the information technology system in operating her company. She started with a web site that advertised her business. During that expansion with information technology, Duckett had to make sure her back office IT infrastructure was solid enough to maintain the demands and needs of the company and customer needs. The reason she changed from word of mouth type of company is due to a big contract she lost because the consumer said she lack credibility without an internet website. (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011)
