In Scotland, legal sanctity was conferred to live in relation, under Family Law(Scotland) Act 2006. Section 25 (2) of the Act lays down that a court of law considers a person as a co-habitant of another by checking on three factors, namely:
1) The length of the period during which they lived together
2) The nature of the relationship during that period.
