Case Study Of Raytown Booktown

Julie,

I love your enthusiasm for storytimes. MCPL has bought a bookmobile, but I am not sure when it will be introduced into the community. This year the Raytown branch partnered with the Park and Recreation department in Raytown to have storytime in the park. This was a good idea in theory, but nobody came to these events because of how hot it was on the days we were at the park. Parks and recreation wants us to try fall storytime in the park, but our branch manager said no at this time. We have a few new people and our main storytime person will be on maternity leave during most of the fall. MCPL’s goal once the bookmobile is up and running is to take it to low-income apartments in our area. We will also have someone on board it

No snow, of course, in this southern Florida location but the heat and humidity can be too much for some. In July, high temperatures reach a reasonable 91 degrees while the January low is 58 degrees. But it is the humidity that impacts comfort the most and you will feel it the moment you step outdoors throughout much of the year. If you are not familiar with a humid climate, you will definitely want to vacation in the region before taking the leap to buy a vacation home here.…

Points of Interest There are several details in this story which raised doubt with both the parents of the children and the local police department. When the children departed for Glenely Beach in the morning of January 26th, they left with only enough money to cover their bus fare: six shilling and a sixpence. However, the shop owner, who sold several pastries and a meat pie to the children at 11:45am, reported that the children paid for the food with a $1 bill, an amount of money that they did not have when they left their mother’s care. In the essay “Why Place Matters” Wilfred McClay and Ted McAllister argue that the loss of one's connection to a physical place results in the loss of individuality and one's public virtues. They fear that the importance of “place” seems to be fading and is now currently being replaced with a world that is deemed ‘placeless’ and thrives only on technology. They claim that place is an essential part for one to have a set of memories that build up a self identity. This self identity allows for a sense of responsibility that one has for their own community. They believe one cannot be apart of society without being a part of a place within that society.…

Essay on “Why Place Matters” In Wilfred M. McClay and Ted V. McAllister’s “Why Place Matters,” they discuss about “place” as an abstract concept that can also be very precise and meaningful. However, due to globalization and digital interactions, place no longer seem to matter in modern society. Individuals are substituting place and physical space with websites and online relations. As a result, people are disconnecting from our physical innate need for thereness. I agree with McClay and McAllister that the lack of physical place can risk losing our ability to associate with others, one’s identity, and public virtues.…
