One program that stands out in this early period — both for its atypical subject matter and its subsequent notoriety in a series of patent lawsuits — is Tennis for Two (1958), created by physicist William Higinbotham to entertain guests at the annual visitor's day held by the Brookhaven National Laboratory. This program displayed a tennis court in side view on an oscilloscope and allowed two players to volley a ball using box-shaped controllers equipped with a knob for trajectory and a button for hitting the ball. Displayed for two seasons at Brookhaven, Tennis for Two proved popular with the public, but was ultimately dismantled so its parts could be re-purposed for other tasks. Higinbotham never considered adapting the successful game into…

There are probably a few things that Babolat could be doing better. One thing I think they could work on is posting a little more frequently. There are some days on their social media pages that go without a post while some of their competitors, like Wilson tennis, post multiple times a day (Wilson Tennis). With the low volume of posts it is possible that their tweets will go completely unseen by many of their followers and will just get lost. I also think they could get more involved in community events, like hosting combines and camps for young kids to be able to come to and maybe get some tennis lessons as well getting some free Babolat merchandise.…

The majority of tennis facilities have outside courts and are occasionally affected by rain, snow, heat, and other extreme weather conditions. During a tournament, even the slightest amount of rain can cause delays. Once the court is completely wet, the players must come off the court. Depending on how severe the weather is, thirty minutes is usually the amount of time allotted for the courts to dry and to continue play (USTA-Atlanta 6). Although the players must come off the court, a tennis director’s job does not stop for the weather.…

On August 11 the world lost Howard Brody, a physics professor who worked at the University of Pennsylvania. He died at the age of 83 and left behind a series of findings that made him known as “the world’s foremost physicist of tennis,” as said by Margalit Fox in her NY Times article. Howard focused his professional work on particle physics until the size of a tennis racket caused him to investigate the sport even further. He was specifically curious about how the tennis ball would hit the racket’s percussion center, which would create “a torque-free still point” (Fox). After recently learning the meaning of torque in physics class I was able to understand that this meant if the ball hit at a specific spot there would be a very small amount…
