The Nora-Sakari case study is about Nora trying to create a joint venture with Sakari. Nora was a leader of Telecom equipment. It was established in 1975 and run by the founder Osman Jaafar, his wife Nora Asyiken Yusof and a handful of employees. Osman then hired Zainal Hashim to be the deputy manager and eventually became the vice-chairman of the company. While Osman was considered a modest businessman and liked to go after new business ventures, Zainal favored a low side view technic and concentrated on the management aspect. Sakari was recognized in 1865 as a pulp and paper mills. In 1960 it began to expand the company into rubber and cable industries. It merged with the Finnish Rubber Works and Finnish Cable Works. Both companies would benefit from the joint venture. Nora hoped to gain access to technology that they did not have, but would gain it through Sakari. While Sakari looked to establish a presence in Malaysia, which Nora had already established with government ties. Nora already had the deal in hand that was given to them by the local government (Telekom Malaysia BHD). Sakari wanted to advance in the global market. Talks are already in the works with Nora and both sides would need to make changes to their proposals. However, if there were no time constraint, Zainal should start searching for another option to help them fulfill the TMB, such as Samsung or Siemens. While Sakari is technologically advanced in the areas that Nora needs to gain a knowledge base for Nora’s future profit and developments, Sakari is not blinded to the situation and is acting selfishly by withholding the key components and knowledge from Nora in order to achieve their personal goal of entering into the international markets. This does not support Nora’s big picture and purpose for going through with the partnership to begin with. However, looking for another option would be a last resort due to the extra money it would cost, as well as, the time needed to restart negotiations and the entire process over
