Currently Netflix, Inc. remains in the lead amongst its competitors; however, there is no guarantee that this advancement is a permanent one. It is inevitable that emerging companies will come up with creative ideas to gain the competitive edge and receive more consumers. For example, Amazon.com has “amplified its competition with Netflix, Inc. by offering Amazon Prime members the ability to stream videos at no extra charge,” (Nelson and Quick, 2013, p. 74). This presents a challenge to Netflix, Inc. because if its consumers also have Amazon Prime for various online purchases then they can eliminate one subscription fee by utilizing the media streaming service from Amazon Prime, a service that is already used for other purchases. In order for Netflix, Inc. to address the challenge of growing competition then it will have to ensure that its product offers media that the other competitors cannot offer. Each of these challenges has the potential to create more jobs within Netflix. Researchers can be hired to look for the different ways to deploy technology. Original programming also will create new jobs for many people. Growing competition fuels the drive that Netflix, Inc. will need to come up with innovative concepts.
