Stress is a hurdle that every student faces every single day. Frequently, It is the reason for their failure, although it can the reason they succeed. All students nowadays are competing. In this case, they compete against each other for the best grades, but they also compete together as teams like a choir. The overwhelming amount of stress caused by competition can be debilitating thus leading to their failures, but with the right level of stress, later classified as good stress, students can succeed. In my experience, stress and competition have made me a stronger singer and yet it made me feel hopeless and abandoned. As a matter of fact, I would get so stressed during a performance that I would mess up and fail. In the Article Music Performance Anxiety in Instrumental Music Students: A Multiple Case Study of Teacher Perspectives by Crystal Sieger, students showed that high anxiety during a performance caused them to mess up. This anxiety is called music performance anxiety or MPA for short. The paper argued that this stress should be minimized and that students that are stressed do worse. On the other hand, I was in a high-stress environment in Choir and that motivated me to improve. …show more content…
With this in mind, some people can handle it better than others, but once the general population realizes that stress is a tool then stress would be used easily to perform at higher levels. Stress does not have to be an impenetrable wall that one must defeat. It can become a useful sidekick by changing people’s mindset on stress, by reducing as much unnecessary stress, and by asking for help. Society does not need to fear stress. It needs to start embracing and celebrating it. This is not to say that humans should have a lot of stress but have a moderate amount of it. The negative effects of stress can be reduced dramatically, but some psychologists still argue that stress should be completely eradicated to give students the best chance to
