For the past week I have been researching on the topic on whether our department should sponsor an undergraduate Economics major at the California Institution for Women in Chino, as part of a larger UCLA prison education program. Through this memo I want to summarize my research and offer some recommendations to the department. Recently, the Education Department has been trying to lift a ban that was executed in 1994, a ban to limit education access to people in the prison. An experimental based pilot program was proposed to replant access to incarcerated person in hopes to give them a higher chance to be offered a job once released from prison.…

Pregnant drug users should be charged with child abuse. When arguing why pregnant drug users should be prosecuted we must recognize and understand child welfare and the laws and or policies associated with child welfare. According to the Child Welfare government website, child welfare “ promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.” One major Act that needs to be delegated as a crucial factor in prosecuting pregnant drug abusers is the Child Abuse Prevention Act. The book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini tells the story of two different women, and how the lives of these two women relate and intertwine. Part two of the novel establishes parallels between the two women, and similarities as well as difference between the two characters are established. Mariam and Laila share the same only-child type of upbringing, both women are influenced by their mother’s behavior, and both women look for protection from men. Laila and Mariam grew up in similar situations, though neither of them were truly only children, they grew up in the absence of their siblings. Mariam grew up without her siblings due to the fact that she was an illegitimate child, and was not seen as equal to her half siblings.…

According to the Global Library of Women’s Medicine (n.d.), “Of the 4 million women who become pregnant each year, at least 20% smoke cigarettes, 19% drink alcohol, 20% use legal drugs, and 10% use illicit drugs during their pregnancy.3 Thus, substance use is highly prevalent in pregnant women” (Epidemiology of Substance Abuse). That is 800,000 women who smoke cigarettes, 760,000 women who drink alcohol, 800,000 women who use legal drugs, and 400,000 women who use illicit drugs during their pregnancy. So while the percentages seem small it is evident that the actual number of pregnant women affected by drugs is quite large.…

    Case Study Of Macao

The attractive lure of the UWHL is also different in countries and regions. Take Macao for example, in Fig. 1 in the appendix one will see that there were more tourists from China performing heritage tourism compared to international tourists. A reason for this may be that Asian tourists value the Portuguese-style architecture of the historic centre of Macao more than European tourists and American tourists. The case study in Macao should not be expected to work in all world heritage sites since Macao only has one world heritage site in the region, which means a region with more than two world heritage sites should refer to the Macao case study with caution.…
