To successfully make the decision to join Miracle Limbs – Courage in Motion as a board member. I would need to first fully understand what this organization is all about. For this to happen I will need to speak with the founder Robert C, Ayres and Co-Founder Diana Dozier-Ayres. As well as acquiring more information before deciding on joining the board or not. I would have to have adequate knowledge of their non-profit. I would need to know about the community they serve, and the location they are in. I would want to get a full understanding of the mission’s statement and agree with the vision they have moving forward. I would want to know and meet their staff and any long-term volunteers. I would need to understand their finances and where

This organization does many different things, they provide emotional and mental support to their main demographic of amputees, as well as provide a type of medical service in the form of new limbs. This means the people who are on the board to be effective they must where many hats. As a board member for this organization I would be expected to keep a good understanding of the budget. This is important because many of the services that Miracle Limbs provide are expensive. To understand how much money is going in and how much is coming out is very important. They also will have an advocate role to play in helping the people they work with, either it be with the hospital or with helping bring awareness to the rising need for affordable limbs. They also will have to understand Hospital polices like patient privacy laws and how insurance work in order to get the care their people need. Being a good board member here means you will have to have a good rapport with hospital, donors and the clients receiving their services. Also, be able to get good donations that come from people who will be able to repeat the giving when necessary. As well as have a good understanding of medical laws and the services out there that help people who have become amputees. In Miracle Limbs strategic plan, it states this:
• “Build a strong committed Board of Directors, to ensure the organization remains fiscally sound.
• Create a high quality service delivery plan for clients Increase the volunteer base to include medical and social services professionals
• Solidify relationships with existing providers, while developing and expanding the network
• Increase funding in order to continually increase the number of clients and locations served”()
Board members will have to be willing to help in all of these
