Given the opportunity provided by Shenzhen University to complete an internship in my fourth year of studying Economics, I chose to look for an internship company in the educational industry so that I could see for myself how the tutoring industry works and see if the business model could be translated to work in Zambia. I was fortunate to find a company run by Jack Cheng called Meifu International Education.
Company background
Meifu was started in the beginning of 2016 as a private company that provides high quality training. The institution is dedicated to providing corporate training programs and to preparing students to study abroad, offering IELTS, TOEFL, SSAT, SAT and AP exam courses. In all the countries in East Africa, a common goal was to get a high paying position with benefits at a Chinese company - as long as you spoke English. Now these jobs are on a decline. Hiring a foreign face is expensive, and many cases a bilingual Chinese person fluent person is a better fit. Why would a company hire a native English speaker without Mandarin skills, when a Chinese person is fluent in both English and Mandarin can easily fulfill the position? I had to provide a course with scientific planning every day, arranging the planning content corresponding to the student’s ability. Each day I would set the content of all kinds of problems to solve with students each learning stage we encountered and give them the most effective solution. At the end of the course I would arrange the exam questions and the professional teachers would come and check if the contents were set for the students to write. In order to effectively monitor the learning affect at the same time, after the module test will arrange professional teachers for students to explain the content of the test item by item and answering the questions, in order to quickly find the problem given the rapid solution at the beginning of the internship I formulated several learning goals, which I wanted to
