Testifying during a preliminary hearing in the Humboldt county courthouse, CHP officer William Adams said Marci Kitchen had asked a woman by the name of Ronda Rex to remove seven pounds of marijuana and a separate amount of alcohol from her jeep when she confessed.
“I did it. I hit the girls,” Adams said recounting what Rex told him Marci Kitchen had said to her.
The officer said Rex told her that she had asked Marci Kitchen if she had been drinking.

Kadle said he arrived at the scene around dusk to find Tsarnas lying face down in the roadway. He said he and first responders flipped her to look for a pulse but were unsuccessful.
“The legs were deformed — they appeared twisted — the neck appeared to be in a elongated position with head facing to the side,” Kadle said. “There was marks on the torso and on the head.”
Officers found Kiya Kitchen lying nearby in a brushy area beside the road. Medical responders took Kiya Kitchen to Redwood Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Tsarnas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Adams said when he arrived at the scene about 9:16 p.m. a man by the name of Dwayne Ashbach flagged him down to tell him he had witnessed the collision.

Back at the scene, Adams said he and other officers were approached by Marci Kitchen.
Officer Kadle said Marci Kitchen arrived at the scene demanding to see her daughter and appeared drunk.
“She was visibly upset and crying; her speech was slightly slurred,” Kadle said. “I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her as she spoke.”
Adams said he let her walk past a police barrier to see if she could identify the body, which was later revealed to have been Tsarnas.
