The smell of cooking doughnuts caused customers walking past the bakery to request to purchase hot doughnuts. To accommodate their request Mr. Rudolph remodeled his shop by placing a pick up window to sell hot original glazed doughnuts to patrons. In 1944 Mr. Rudolph created the display case to showcase multiple flavors of doughnuts. This new attraction increased sales to impulse buyers
In1955 Mr. Rudolph expanded his business by offering Fundraising programs to churches, schools, and other nonprofit organizations. Krispy Kreme Fundraiser Programs has held true to their vision by establishing themselves as an organization with a positive image in the community. Their fundraising programs has helped multiple non-profit organizations and charitable events throughout the years. In an effort to keep up with the growth and ensure their product taste and quality remains the same at all of their locations they moved from hand production to mechanical production in 1963. This allowed Krispy Kreme to increase production and keep up with the high demand for their product. Krispy Kreme still utilizes the same methods today when manufacturing their doughnuts. The proofing, cooking, glazing, screen loading and cutting process is mechanical. By 1973 Krispy Kreme had expanded to 60 shops throughout the United States and in 1989 Krispy Kreme opened its first retail only shop located in Greensboro North Carolina. The retail shop made and delivered doughnuts to 180 retail stores. Along with the opening of the retail only shop, Krispy Kreme enhanced their ordering system which increased production and made it easier for retailers to place orders.
In 1982 Krispy Kreme gained new ownership. Beatrice Food Company purchased Krispy Kreme and introduced the concept of Doughnut Theater. Doughnut Theater allowed customers to visually see the production of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Thirty four years later Krispy Kreme continues to allow their customers to visually see the production of their Original Glaze Doughnuts when they visit the
