INTRODUCTION
Overview
HarborChase of Gainesville has many residents that are lonely, they don’t have any family nearby or their family doesn’t visit them. My plan to help their loneliness, and depression is to create a pet therapy program that individually visits the residents.

During my excursion to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, I quickly realized many of the emotional connections that humans and their canine pets share. Prior to visiting with the dogs, I made my way around the cat shelter area. After observing the cats, it became evident that their many of their “cute” behaviors were aimed solely at attracting the attention of potential human companions. For instance, a white cat named Sirocco made a distinctive pawing motion whenever I passed her cage, as if she was beckoning me to come closer and visit with her. Yet, after she had garnered my awareness, the snow colored tabby simply retreated back onto to her cardboard bed to continue her restful afternoon.…

Dogs are incredible animals but we need to know how to treat and take care of these special animals. In the “Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook” it educates dog owners and future dog owners on what to do in emergencies, special diets, how to look for diseases, how to treat the diseases, certain symptoms and what might be causing them, canine senses and so many other things. One of the really fascinating things that they covered in the book was how to read an x ray of a dog's chest, stomach, and the rest of the body. They also really thoroughly cover all of the emergency supplies you should have just in case your dog needs to be treated right away and can't wait until you can get to the vet. The book also informs you on the special Flea,…

There has also been research conducted on the effects of Animal-Assisted therapy among young children and preschool children in school. Rather than twisting off a cap of a prescription bottle and downing a pill or two with a swig of water, a rather unique form of treatment for mental illnesses is the use of emotional support animals (ESA for short). Contrary to service animals, an emotional support animal is not trained for a specific task other than providing comfort to someone suffering from a mental illness. ESAs have no restrictions on the breed or species of animal and can range from dogs to cats and even reptiles. Emotional support animals are normally the person’s pet before they are registered and therefore are hard to distinguish from other pets. While there is some controversy for the use of emotional support animals, consistent results from research and studies suggests…

I have owned a total of four dogs and two cats in my short eighteen years of life. To say the least, I’ve always loved animals, specifically dogs.
