The Society for Human Resources Management states, “in addition to sensitive employee information, human resources must maintain confidentiality about management or business information that is not available to non-management employees.” (5) Golden Krust does not have a HR department, so any thing that has to deal with employees goes through management. Management has been known to often discuss personal and business matters with non-management associates. Employees should feel safe to go to their supervisors about what is happening in their work or personal life without the fear of the rest of the staff knowing about it. That is not the case at Golden Krust. There have been cases where something incredibly personal and tragic such as homelessness or domestic abuse has occurred to an associate and by the next day the whole crew knows and gossips about it. To do this, Golden Krust must:
1. Create a “Bullying Prevention Ambassador” to combat any practices of bullying in the workplace. This title should be held with honor and required that the position holder be someone of good behavioral standing.
2. Conduct mandatory seminars and employee meetings to address inappropriate language and behavior. These meetings must have an open dialogue between superiors and subordinates in order to address which problems need to be eradicated.
3. Hold monthly meetings with managers and employees to know how each employee is doing professionally and personally. Both participants should sign a full disclosure agreement of confidentiality. Supervisors should keep a watchful eye for gossip between employees.
If Golden Krust implemented the recommendations listed above, the interpersonal relations between workers and managers would positively increase. It would make for a happier workplace
