The business is focused around the delivery of three strategic priorities which aim to increase growth, reduce risk and improve our long-term financial performance. Operating responsibly and ensuring our values are embedded in our culture and decision-making helps us better meet the expectations of society. There have been a few problems over the years, some of which we discuss here, that have prompted GSK to update the way they handle those problems. Many changes have gone by over the years but by far one of the most significant is the establishment of the Clinical Trial Register, also known as the Clinical Study Register. This register is noteworthy in that it came about in 2004 due to GlaxoSmithKline’s disregard for the truth. She followed the code of conduct, “be patient focused; act with integrity; demonstrate respect for people and operate with transparency” to the letter. She tried to right the wrongs but could not until she took action that was extreme. By reporting to her superiors so often, she was let go and even receiving money as a whistleblower has to be a hollow victory (Connor 2010). She can sleep at night knowing she did the right thing.
