Dear, principal Thorne

With the following of Wednesday's events a decision was made on behalf of Eagle hour a students free time to catch up on academics, socialize, and receive help from teachers that many like myself have found an amazing helpful tool students have access to. This decision had made it clear that Eagle hour was to be terminated and the regular lunch schedule would come back into play. Though anyone could see reasons as to why this hour of freedom has caused problems and could possibly cause more in the future there are certain aspects to think of.

Over the course of the year that students have been able to experience Eagle hour my peers have been allowed to finish an assignment they may have not had the time to complete

At the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, Melissa High School students found that they would be a part of a big change called Mega Lunch. Students discovered that they would have an hour to socialize or get work done during this time, but with this came 50 minute detentions to those who were assigned them. A week before Mega Lunch started on September 26th, Principal Wooten held meetings with each grade level separately by gender. During these meetings Mr. Wooten explained the rules and regulations for Mega Lunch, in which the 50 minute detentions were brought up. He explained that the detentions would be held during the first 50 minutes of Mega Lunch in the auxiliary gym and that students would be given the last 10 minutes to eat.…

Husky Halftime is an intriguing, valuable, and unique addition to a regular school day schedule at Blue Valley Northwest. One of the most useful features of Husky Halftime is the ability to access help from teachers that does not involve the hassle of coming in before or after school. Like many other students, the bus is my daily transportation system after school since both of my parents work. This makes going to after-school clubs, activities, and getting help from teachers, extremely difficult. With Husky Halftime, I can frequently visit my teachers to retake a quiz, ask questions, or make up homework.…

Between 11:09 AM and 12:12 PM, the brightly lit, eight-tile hallways of Center High School are littered with students sitting cross-legged while a pair of white, Apple headphones protrude from their ears. In addition, the student’s faces almost look as if the grim reaper has stolen their soul and locked it in a gloomy closet only to be released after 12:12 PM. Students have always plagued the CHS hallways; however, the number has increased dramatically this school year. CHS students simply lack engagement during flex lunch. The disappearance of clubs, or the lack thereof, is one factor that considerably hinders student involvement during flex lunch.…

“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.” A quote written by Abraham Lincoln, which means that everyone should be treated equally. That doesn't mean we are all the same, but each of us should be treated with respect, dignity, and the same opportunities everyone should have. There is a strong debate amongst schools over whether or not they should allow their senior students to leave campus during their lunch break. Some people think it is only right for them to be able to, that it is a good oppurtunity for students to have, and there are no issues with this. Meanwhile, others disagree, saying that it puts up too many risks, or that it's not a necessity and things would work easier without it. Both sides seem to have a valid point, but there is more than sufficient reason to let seniors have this…
