The primary issue in this case is that Bill has Brooke, a third grader with autism, in his PE class, and he can’t seem to figure out how to best include her. Cohen did a couple of things during the entry phase that put Bill at ease about the consultant relationship. To begin, she arrived early and sat down in the corner of the gym to observe. She didn’t cause a scene and placed herself in a location where she could watch Brooke without disrupting Bill’s class. Also, Ms. Cohen genuinely listened to Bill when he described what was going to happen in class. She didn’t step in to voice her opinion, instead she sat back and waited to hear what Bill had to say to help her better understand Brooke.
