Eric, is a six year old boy who lives with his mother, Elizabeth, and his father, Dan. Eric plays soccer and goes to school. Eric struggles with reading, so his teacher has suggested that he needs more practice at home. Eric appears to have a good teacher, she cares enough about her students so uc, that she makes a conference with Eric’s parents about his issues. It would seem that Eric’s parents are financially stable, because Eric can play sports, and they have enough money to buy things like dessert. Based on the description, Eric and his parents are all physically healthy, with no obvious medical complications. Elizabeth also appears to have a normal social life. This can be inferred from the interaction with her friend, Courtney. Eric …show more content…
I have cross-referenced them with the symptoms of several mental conditions, and I have discovered, what I believe is the cause of Eric’s behavior. I think that Eric’s condition is co-morbid, and that he has both Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder. The symptoms of each condition individually could not fully explain his behavior, but together, all of the math adds up. The symptoms of ADHD include: lack of focus, boredom, trouble completing homework, fidgeting, not listening when spoken to, not following directions, and the inability to process information quickly. All of these signs coincide with Eric’s behavior. The lack of focus, trouble completing homework, and slow information processes could explain why he is having trouble at school. This is why Eric’s teacher became concerned about him. This would also explain why Eric doesn't excel at soccer. This may be why he draws in the dirt and runs around instead of focusing on the game. According to the Mayo Clinic, the classic symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder include: antisocial behavior, deceitfulness, hostility, irresponsibility, manipulativeness, risk taking behaviors, aggression, impulsivity, irritability, or lack of restraint. ASPD is referred to as a “Sociopath” in popular culture. Someone with ASPD does not care about the thoughts or feelings of others, and sees no wrong in manipulating or breaking the rules for personal gain. Someone with this condition does not like to be around others, and will act out when irritated. This could explain why Eric crumpled up the girls drawing and manipulates his mother for extra dessert. The signs of ASPD begin to show in childhood, that is why I think this is a reasonable diagnosis. I think that Eric has developed ASPD because of the way his dad treats him. Eric feels abandoned by his father figure, therefore he is developing erratic and irrational behavior. It

Priestley’s thriller, An Inspector Calls, but upon deep analysis, we can see that Eric is a character of great significance and has a huge impact on the play. This can be seen through the structure and shape of this whodunit and some of the language and stage directions. Eric is a very effective tool that Priestley uses to keep the tension going; be it the difference of opinion he has with his father or the suspicious behaviour, or even later on in the play, his absence which is the peak of tension.…
