Lessons on Leadership from Ann Fudge

Ms. Ann Fudge came to the rescue of Martin Sorrell’s company of Young & Rubicam (Y&R). She became the fresh face that Y&R needed in order to stay afloat after being acquired by Martin Sorrell’s London based company, the WPP Group. Ms. Ann Fudge was the former president of Kraft Foods before she started her journey aboard Y&R company. Her unique ability to be a charismatic leader and a leader that also cared about her employees proved to be exactly what the Y&R company needed from its new CEO.
The Five Factor Model (FFM) aka the OCEAN model includes: openness to experience, agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and neuroticism. I think that Fudge shows that she has a high level of openness

She demonstrates this quality by the way she looks for new life experiences through travel and by other means. She surrounds herself with many kinds of people; people of varying ages, races, and genders. She visits factories around the world trying to improve creativity. Agreeableness is basically how an individual gets along with other people. I believe she also is at a high level for this quality. I think this because Ms. Fudge’s employees and others view her as approachable, charming, and just plain easy to talk to and voice concerns to. Conscientiousness is basically how people approach their work. I think that Ms. Fudge is at a medium level for this quality. She is organized, kind hearted, genuine, and takes her commitments and obligations seriously. But she also is creative and can think outside the box when required to. Extraversion involves behaviors and actions/ways of thinking that come out of group settings; getting ahead in life. I thought that a main example of this was best stated by Eckert in the case. Eckert says, “She is equally comfortable with consumers at the ballpark, factory workers on a production line, …show more content…
It allowed her to relax and unwind for one. It also gave her a breather from the fast-paced lifestyle that she was living. It was a much-needed slowdown in my opinion. It gave her the opportunity to explore and set some long-term goals for herself. For example, writing a book, getting a few new hobbies, and refocusing the direction of her life. But on the other hand, the were some drawbacks to the break she took. One of them is that the break took her out of the mainstream work “culture”. This can cause a person to lose touch with technology, practices, standards, and many more things. Not to mention they can lose touch with their colleagues and connections. I didn’t notice any evidence that this happened to Ms. Fudge, but I do think that if she stayed out on break for more than two years she may have experienced some of the things I

Individual differences in response to trauma are influenced by a variety of factors. Two very important factors that contribute towards one’s susceptibility to develop PTSD are personality and coping factors (Paris, 2000). These factors – as predispositions – can be best understood by combining them with a cognitive processing model (Paris, 2000). This model suggests that one cannot understand the impact of life events without understanding how one processes such events i.e. their cognitive schemas (Paris, 2000). Coping and personality factors can pose as a means to explain why some individuals experience traumatic events and life stressors more intensely than others.…

Trait theorists focus on the measurement of traits and believe that to better understand personality we should focus on an individual’s traits and characteristic behaviour(Saul Kassin,; 2003). Using the five-factor model of personality, trait theorists can develop different kinds of questionnaires, such as the NEO Personality Inventory, to measure a person’s personality traits (Costa, P.T. Jr. and McCrae, R.R, 1992). With this data, researchers can describe a person’s personality using the 5 global factors of the five-factor model. The five-factor model helps trait theorists identify characteristics that individuals possess and to the extent of which they are present (Matthews, Gerald; Deary, Ian J.; Whiteman, Martha C, 2003). Freuds psychodynamic…
