Ms. Sunshine is a fifty four year old African American woman that has a history of coronary artery disease. The ethnicity and culture of a patient has a vital role in any disease, especially coronary artery disease. A person’s socioeconomic status is associated with the health status of the person (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), 2016). A low economic status is associated with a poor health status. According to NHLBI (2016), African Americans have the highest rates of heart disease in the United States. The African American culture does not have great control over other medical conditions, such as hypertension and high cholesterol, which in turn could lead to coronary artery disease.
