Alex indicated that the reasons that Melinda was providing were inadequate to answer for the decreased performance. Upon those remarks, Melinda introduced another reason for her declining performance. She indicated her current position was granted to her because of her language and her cultural background that fitted the South Western region. Melinda cited her past exemplary performance from the last ten years and her qualifications to have warranted her a managerial position. She added that the firm had practiced sexual discrimination in their management roles and she was the only woman in the region and that the business had failed to award her the managerial position that she deserved choosing instead to give it to Alex.

In addition, Alex could have attempted to determine whether the internal business conditions had influence in the performance of Melinda. The internal conditions that could have contributed to Melinda underperformance could be employee-management relations, safety in the working environment, compensation and other rewards. The scene takes place soon after the second meeting in Alex`s office. At the scene, it appears Melinda has thought things over and decided to open up about the underlying issues affecting her performance rather than finding scapegoats. At the meeting, Melinda is brief and to the point. Alex is caught by surprise by Melinda revelations that establish that all along, Melinda has been beating around the bush and misleading Alex to determining the possible causes for underperformance. Melinda claims that her pregnancy had resulted from her giving in to sexual harassment by one of the leading distributors in the region. The sexual encounters with the distributor had ensured he continued distributing their firm`s products that had boosted Melinda`s sales significantly. However, when she became pregnancy, their relationship became sour and the distributor declined responsibility as well as terminating his distributing their products. The incidence had disturbed Melinda emotionally and professionally leading to her underperformance. In addition, the sicknesses associated with the pregnancy coupled with the withdrawal of the major distributor in the region had affected the volume of her sales
