To establish a strong public image both Hershey and Mars dedicated time and money towards charity work and employee satisfaction. Milton Hershey; the founder of Hershey, became increasingly involved in community service after his wife passed away. He decided to create a utopia for middle class families in Hershey, Pennsylvania that would be affordable and provide services such as plumbing and free college for residents. Mars however, decided to win the public 's favor through treating their employees like a giant family, they accomplished this by acknowledging employees on a first name basis and convincing the public that they were a small and humble family owned business and would even insist that higher ups flew coach on business
