In this scenario, it is assumed that Mark Brooks cheated on his exam to get a better grade. Being in the situation where Mark probably stole the exam, telling the professor would be the right thing to do but this would not be easy. First, Mark is your friend and he trusts you. If he gets accused of cheating, whether he did it or not, he will assume it was you who told on him which could severely impact your relationship. Second, you would have little to no evidence that he cheated on the exam. He could easily claim that he spent more time studying and really did work additional problems that helped him better prepare for the test.
